"Chasing the Day"

Through my paintings, I continually explore the experience of seeing light. With this body of work, I look to physical surroundings to help shape and shift my vision in the landscape.

A cluster of trees simultaneously act as both a filter and instrument-they impose new paths for the light through their openings, or create a web of mapping from their cast linear shadows. A tree, silhouetted by the sky, transforms the colors between its limbs and alters all logic for a moment. A branch from above throws down a size and place while ignoring its own size and place.

I hope to present a space that at once may deny a sense of reasoning yet connect with a sensual reality for the viewer.

"Light Frenzy"

Light frenzy-a paradox of visual calmness and chaos that happen when experiencing transient light in the landscape. This movement may be observed as a tranquil and foreseeable cycle of day into night into day. It may also be perceived as noisy disorder-the bouncing light stirring up life around it. Both occur at the same time.

I hope to present a space where the viewer may witness this simultaneous event: feeling a sense of serenity and vigor in ever fleeting light.
